Edible Cookie Dough
The following recipes are from Olivia Hope's Cookbook, "The Edible Cookie Dough Cookbook." There are so many recipes and recipe variations to try, plus her chocolate sauce recipe is literally the best I've ever tasted!
At the time I recorded the show, I hadn't found Olivia's Website, but I have it now and it's amazing! Here's the link with instructions on how to order!
An excerpt from Olivia's Book -
"You cannot make edible cookie dough without "heat treating" your flour to 160 degrees Fahrenheit using your handy dandy microwave. If you don't have a thermometer, that's okay. Heating the flour for 1 1/2 minutes is more than enough to kill any possible bacteria. If you place your finger into the center of the flour it should be hot enough that you can't keep your finger in there for more than a few seconds."
3 rounds, of 30 seconds, with a stir or whisk in the middle, and you're good to go.
• All you'll need is a microwave safe bowl, a microwave, a whisk or spoon, and a sifter.
• I like to use a pyrex pie plate and I always put more flour than I need, about a half cup more as some of it sticks to the bottom of the plate no matter how much you scrape.
• If you can make cookies you can make edible cookie dough, in fact it’s easier because you don’t need an oven to tell you when it’s done. There’s no overcooked or underdone… It’s just delicious “cookie dough,” that’s safe to eat.
" It’s perfect for parties because it’s shelf stable. The sugar acts as a type of preservative and can sit on the counter for up to 10 days. Butter is fine stored at room temperature for that long. Refrigerating it will make it last longer, just remember to take it out and let it come to room temperature for an easy bite.
Edible Cookie Dough Storage
Can stay 10 days- 2 weeks on the counter
One month in the refrigerator
Up to three months in the freezer. The dough stores perfectly so don't be afraid to freeze them. Give the dough time to thaw, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour if it's been frozen.
Spicy Party Mix
This recipe makes 36 oz, or enough for 9 packs of four oz in each package. Great to pack up in cute bags as gifts!
Treats in Action!
When it comes to the edible cookie dough there's a few different things you can do. I used a small cookie scoop and scooped little balls of cookie dough into mini cupcake liners. These days it is easy to get your hands on those clear clamshell cupcake holders in the mini or regular size. Choose the size you want and use a cookie scoop, and instead of cupcakes in the little open cupcake spaces will be your edible cookie dough.
Something else you can do is get those cute paper coffee cups with lids. I've seen some really cute ones at the dollar store. I would line it with a plastic bag, measure out a few cookie scoops, pop them in, tie the top of the bag for extra protection, and pop the lid on. You could attach a $5 Starbucks gift card to it- that would be a cute teacher gift. Coffee goes extremely well with edible cookie dough.
And if your plan is to bring it for a larger gathering, you could serve them on a platter - just pre scoop them into your muffin liners and line them up on your platter, or, you can bring it in a pretty bowl, and let people scoop it themselves.
For the Spicy Party Mix, add stickers or bow to your bag, or serve it in a pretty bowl, with a serving tool and cups people can scoop the mix into. Have you ever seen those cute "butterflies" made from zip lock bags and colorful craft store pipe cleaners? In other words, figure out how you can present it in a nice way while also not being too complicated.
Let me know if you make these!
